The "Why" behind Thistle and Grace

I love pretty things. I mean, who doesn't? But there's just something about flowers that speak to me in ways nothing else does. Their fragrance and vast array of colors, their symbolism, their spectacular and wonderous blooms. It's even been pointed out to me that every time I pass a flower, I let out a tiny squeal of joy.
Thistles are known for their resilience due to their ability to thrive in harsh and sometimes tough environments. They also have a self-protective nature with their sharp spines and prickly leaves. In Scotland (where my ancestors come from), the thistle is a national emblem. Legend says that Norse invaders were thwarted when they stepped on the thorn plants barefoot at night- turning the thistle into a symbol of protection and fierce spirit. Yet, their blooms produce a delicate purple flower, which to me represents the perfect metaphor for strength combined with vulnerability. Beauty earned through hardship.
Sounds a lot like life, right? I know I can certainly relate.
What about Grace you ask? Grace is not only part of my first name but is how I try to move through life...with grace. I think spending over 20 years as a yoga teacher has only exacerbated this way of living, and flowers serve as a beautiful reminder.
So, Thistle and Grace.
My vision for T&G, however, goes beyond simply curating pretty events. I have a desire to guide and encourage you toward an exploration into the rich and deeply meaningful experience of flowers- to dive in heart first as we cultivate community through wonder, curiosity, and the magic of flowers together. I can't wait for you to join me.
